Fall 2020 The Collection

The Collection

Inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s 1797 poem ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,’ this season, co-creative directors, Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, assume their apprenticeship roles in the Oscar de la Renta atelier. The duo spin extraordinary dresses and gowns from silk taffetas, draped beading, and the finest couture fabrics from the 1960s—now new again—in a magical fashion.

Their roles, assumed at night in the story, bring the focus of Fall 2020 on the enchantment of magical evenings. And so naturally, the collection takes its cues, too, from the iconic New York City party scene—where Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball, which Oscar de la Renta attended himself, was the barometer of fabulous.
