REGINA KING 2019 MET GALA

REGINA KING WORE A CUSTOM OSCAR DE LA RENTA GOWN TO THE 2019 MET GALA.

HER GOWN WAS INSPIRED BY NINA MAE MCKINNEY, AN AMERICAN ACTRESS FROM THE 1930S WHO GOT HER START ON BROADWAY AND WAS KNOWN FOR

STARRING IN THE FILM HALLELUJAH.

43 ARTISANS SPENT A TOTAL OF 1,246 HOURS CRAFTING THE GOWN - AS INTRICATE AND SCULPTURAL ON THE INSIDE AS IT IS ON THE OUTSIDE.

THE GOWN IS BUILT WITH DOUBLE CORSETRY UNDER LAMÉ WITH VERMICELLI SEQUINNING, CRYSTALS AND GLASS SILVER-LINED CAVIAR BEADS INSIDE METALLIC

CUP SEQUINS. EMBROIDERY IS DÉGRADÉ FROM TOP TO BOTTOM AND OMBRÉ FROM WARM GOLD TO ROSE GOLD – ALMOST UNDETECTABLY, IT ADDS TO THE

DIMENSION AND LUSTER OF THE PIECE.

GOLD CRINOLINE NETTING IS FRAMED, ACCORDION-PLEATED, STRIP-SEWN TOGETHER AND DRAPED OVER ONE SHOULDER.
